- Paste the video link and open the ChatGPT packager.
- Choose a task: Summary, Takeaways, Action Items, or Study Quiz.
- You get the instruction, the video title and channel, and the transcript between clear START and END markers.
- Transcripts over about 3,000 words are split into parts of roughly 3,000 words, labeled "Part 1 of N" and so on, each with its own copy button.
An estimated token count (about 1.33 tokens per word) is shown, so you can tell whether a model will take it in one message.
Sending parts without confusing the model
- Send the parts in order, and ask the model to reply only "OK" until it has them all.
- Then ask your question once, about the whole video.
- Ask it to quote lines or give timestamps, so you can check the answer.
Keeping answers honest
Models fill gaps with plausible guesses. Tell yours to answer only from the transcript and to say when something isn't there. The transcript is only as accurate as the captions, so check names and numbers against the video before relying on them.
